Tens of thousands of people were without electricity Thursday as utilities tried to reduce the risk that power lines could blow over and spark fires.

A wildfire warning has been issued for California, where tens of thousands of residents have had their power shut off to reduce risk.

Three children — ages 5, 8 and 11 — and an adult teacher were killed at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend.

Multiple children have been injured in a shooting at a school in Oregon, police said.

“We don’t have a number at this point. We know children are among the victims,” Communications Manager for the Bend Police Department Sheila Miller said.
